Painting Your Asheville Custom Home

When you’re in the process of building your Asheville custom home, it’s an exciting time to get to work designing the interior spaces! While some of our wonderful customers come to us with a vision (or an excellent interior decorator!), it’s perfectly fine if you don’t have a plan in place! Over the course of many years, we’ve worked with countless clients who land on excellent design strategies for each room in their custom hom. Just in case you’re not coming to the process with a great deal of experience, we’ve gathered some tips that we think are helpful when you get started.

NARROWING DOWN YOUR OPTIONS

We’ve all seen the design images of beautiful homes with dramatic wall colors or fun murals. If you’re getting excited watching your custom home builders bring to life your Hendersonville, NC property and are ready to dive in with a lot of flair, by all means, go for it. But for other folks, while these images may be inspiring, they aren’t great long-term options. If you’ve ever lived in a space that had a really vibrant or intense wall color, you’ll know whether that’s something you’re willing to invest in again. Our advice on choosing overall color themes for your new home is to stick with what you already love. If you know that you tend to gravitate toward a soft, warm palette, now is not the time to paint your living room bright turquoise.

BRING THE PROCESS TO LIFE

Another one of our tips is to make the process personal. If you feel motivated, make sure you have your phone camera at the ready when you’re out and about and capture images that serve as color inspiration. We’ve found that the more you look for color combinations that appeal, the more they start to show up in your day to day! And if you’re not inspired to take things on the road, you can do this from the comfort of your own home by surfing the internet for photos that reflect the tones you think would look nice on your walls.

BUILD UP FROM WHAT YOU HAVE

If you’re set on purchasing new furniture for your Asheville custom home, start browsing for the pieces you know you’ll want. These can become a guide to how you choose to organize the rest of the room in terms of color. Similarly, if you’ve got furniture that you already love and will come with you to your new home, use these as a jumping-off point to design the rest of the room. While it might be tempting at first to match the walls to the bold yellow of your favorite couch, another option is to grab a handy color wheel and choose a tone that is complementary to your statement piece. While you may love that yellow, it might end up being a little too overwhelming as a paint color.

PLAN THE FEEL OF YOUR SPACE

Did you know that wall colors have an effect on how we judge a room’s size? Oddly enough, dark colors tend to make us perceive a room as smaller while bright colors open a space up! This can be helpful when you want to create a cozier feel to a part of your house. And remember, when you land on the right color for one room, make sure that the rooms nearby coordinate well with that tone!

It’s a very exciting process to choose your colors. If you want more advice about Asheville custom home designing, we are always eager to help. Feel free to reach out at any time with questions!
